A week on the catamaran Whale Symphony
A TRIP REPORT BY JOSEF BEIL
I couldn’t really imagine it……
4 mentally and physically disabled people, 4 carers and co-skippers on our catamaran Whale Symphony. Plus three wheelchairs, lots of luggage and food. It works and is an impressive experience. It is particularly impressive how much the sea and nature soothe the body, mind, soul and heart, the dedication and responsibility with which the carers accompany their clients 24 hours a day, how important people are who make such experiences possible with so much commitment and how grateful you become when you experience first-hand how well you are doing – even if everyday life doesn’t always run smoothly. DissatisfactionHappiness!

Arrival in Vodice
The big surprise… It’s hard to believe how much luggage, food and equipment is unloaded from the two minibuses and how much can be accommodated on the catamaran. We stay in the marina and round off the day in comfort.

From Vodice to Kaprije
Our co-skipper Klaus is initially surprised at how much speed the boat is rushing across the sea. 10-12 knots of true wind and 7-8 knots of speed. We look for an anchorage on the east side of Kaprije, but all the bays are already full, so we moor at brand new buoys in Uvala Mrtovac. We attach a cable to the boom and let our clients into the water for the first time. A challenge for everyone. There is also a surprise. A luxury catamaran has no dinghy but a small seaplane as a dinghy… 2 hours take-off, landing, take-off, landing, …. Is that necessary?

Back to Vodice
What has happened? A client doesn’t have enough medication with him. Many helpful people help us to find a doctor in Vodice who prescribes the medication. We are ready for the next few days.

Vodice – Vala Musorovica Bay
Vala Musrovica bay (near Gebrastica) really is a highlight. Sandy bottom for the anchor, two shore lines and just us and a small motorboat.

Vala Musorovica – Skradin
Mostly by motor, we headed upriver to Skradin on this day. Thankfully, we were able to reserve a place near the disabled toilets in the ACI marina in Vodice and there was a free ride for disabled people and carers to the waterfalls. Thanks to everyone who helped so kindly.

Skradin – Zirje
Now it was time to sail again. As a precaution, we set the 1st reef in the mainsail. But even so, we were sailing at up to 8 knots towards Zirje and the buoys in Mala Stupica Bay. The bay and the buoys are just great. And because we are back in the marina the next day, we collect a big bag full of garbage from the beach. It’s almost unbelievable how much garbage is always lying on the beach and what you can find there. It gives us a good feeling. We give a little back to nature, because we get a lot from it.

Zirje – Vodice
We enjoy the sea once again with half wind, gennaker and 3.5 knots of speed in 3 knots of wind. We end the evening in the Marina Restaurant Maris. Daniel provides us with good food, large portions and a fair price. Everyone is hungry, even though it is almost 40 degrees during the day.
We will be back!
