From Biograd to Trogir

A week of sailing on the NOSANIDA

In this trip report, Edmund Dvorak talks about his one-way route on the sailing yacht “Nosanida” from Biograd to Trogir.

“One-way trip” from Biograd to Trogir

A TRIP REPORT BY EDMUND DVORAK

The takeover of the boat at the Pitter base in Biograd is as friendly and smooth as ever. Everything we want and need is available in the spacious and well-equipped repertoire of this sailing yacht. Our shopping is also quickly done and stowed on the boat.

The wind is gentle, so the sailing novices on board can settle in well. Less than 2 hours and 8 nm later, we drop anchor in Veli Luka, a well-protected anchorage. A quick dip in the water to cool off and shortly afterwards we are already in the dinghy. As always, the dinghy engine works perfectly and we reach the konoba “La Spuz” in the eastern part of the bay quite quickly.

Bikini konoba

The bikini tops hanging from the roof at the front of the restaurant have become their trademark. The cuisine specializes mainly in steaks, grilled fish and seafood. However, if you like cevapcici or pljeskavica, you won’t find them on the menu. We opt for grilled fish and octopus. The food is not cheap, but very tasty. What’s more, the photos of the beautiful sunset are sure to brighten up gray November days.

After a leisurely breakfast and a long swim in the sea, we head south the next morning. We have let the air out of our dinghy. We can therefore stow it comfortably in the garage provided for it and don’t have to tighten it or fasten it to the deck. The foredeck offers enough space for a dinghy, but I always love to look for a different vantage point during the trip. This also allows us to watch the dolphins that cross our path for a long time.

In 5-20 knots of wind we cross – for the sake of our Crew, partly reefed – to the island of Kankan in the Uv. Potkucina. Today we stay at the buoy, enjoy the galley and swimming in the sea. The spacious bathing platform not only offers us plenty of space for sunbathing, but is also ideal for the crew’s extensive open-air shower in the evening.

Solta Bay

We reach our furthest destination, the island and town of Vis, on the fourth day of our vacation. There is no space left at the pier of Habor Marina Kut in the eastern part of Vis. So we tie our NOSANIDA to one of the free buoys and look forward to jumping into the cool water.

Dinghy garage
with compressor

The dinghy is quickly inflated again with the compressor in the garage and after the short trip to the pier, we walk to the ferry port in the evening. There are plenty of restaurants and this time we choose Mamma Mia 2, whose menu sounds interesting. In addition to pizzas, burgers and seafood, there are also bowls. We don’t miss out on this and the chicken poke bowls we order completely win us over. Our Crew chooses pizza and seafood and they are equally impressed. Even the prices are moderate here.

With full bellies, we stroll back along the promenade. The wonderful view over the whole bay makes us stop again and again to enjoy the view. Back on board, we have a glass of wine to round off the day before the gentle waves rock us to sleep.

View of our buoy field from the promenade

The next day brings the forecast strong wind from the NW. We don’t miss the opportunity to go to a nearby bakery and shop for fruit and other items and pick up fresh bread and pastries for our breakfast. Then – freshly fortified – it’s “cast off”.

With the main and genoa reefed, we round the eastern tip of the island of Vis. However, the 28 knots from the NW are too much for us to cross against. So we decide to postpone the planned circumnavigation of the island to another trip and drop anchor in the bay off Milna, still on the island of Vis. There we spend a leisurely day lazing around with lots of swimming and snorkeling.

The tables can be lowered!

That makes you tired, so today we take a nap together in the afternoon. We lower the tables in the cockpit to seat height and cover them with matching cushions to create two large lounging areas for the four of us to chill out. We bid farewell to the setting sun with a delicious “sundowner” before “conjuring up” spaghetti Bolognese in the well-equipped galley. This is always part of our sailing vacation.

The next morning, we realize that the wind has “blown itself out”. We take our time with breakfast and a long morning swim. But when there is still no breeze, we start the “iron genoa” and leave Vis in the wake. The powerful 80 hp engine brings us quickly and comfortably closer to today’s destination, the island of Brac. During the journey, we reserve a place in the Kanarija marina by telephone. This is a good thing, because otherwise there would have been no berth available for us.

NOSANIDA in the Marina Kanarija in Milna

Cooling off in the sea is not possible in the marina, so the comfortable and clean showers are a real treat. Now we just need to get ready for land and then it’s off to the town. The short distance is a rest for our “sea legs”. We are almost a little “land sick”.

At Konoba Dupini, we indulge in some Croatian cuisine and cheer along with other Austrian guests at the soccer match between our national team and Poland. After “our victory”, we stroll through the lively town in a good mood and have ice cream as a reward. All that’s missing now is the obligatory “good night glass” before we glide into the land of soccer and sailing dreams.

View of the harbor in Trogir from the tower

As we have booked a “one way trip” this time, Trogir is our last port for this vacation.

A 6-10 kn wind from the NW gives us a few more hours of good sailing before we enter the Trogir marina after a stop for a swim and refueling. As we are announced, everything works very well here at the Pitter base. In the early evening, we take a cab boat directly to the pier in the town.

The entire old town of Trogir is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and definitely worth a visit. As always when we visit Trogir, our first stop is the Kamerlengo Fortress, which was built in the 15th century when Trogir was still part of the Republic of Venice. Once built as a defense, the tower of the fortress still offers a great view of the harbor and the surrounding area of the city.

Our hunger is slowly making itself felt and so we make our way through the many tourists populating the old town. Today we are having a “captain’s dinner” and we want to go to Konoba Bonaca on the north side of the old town. It’s quieter and a little cooler here. We have known this restaurant for some time and are looking forward to the good Croatian cuisine and attentive, friendly service.

The last dinner of our trip is – as always – at the expense of the captain, who uses it to thank his crew. It’s a nice tradition. We had a wonderful week and agree that this was certainly not our last sailing vacation together with NOSANIDA.

Bavaria C50 Style “Nosanida”

The sailing yacht “Nosanida”, a Bavaria C50 Style built in 2022, offers space for 11 people in 4+1 cabins. She is moored at the Pitter Yachtcharter base in Marina Kornati, Biograd, Croatia.

Nosanida” offers first-class sailing performance and comfort thanks to its furling mainsail, self-tacking jib, bimini top, autopilot, sprayhood, heating, teak cockpit, GPS chart plotter in the cockpit, AIS and battery storage system.

Additional highlights such as a bow thruster, cockpit cushions, inverter, electric toilet and solar panel provide even more comfort on board. The elegant composite steering wheels are a particularly stylish detail.
